Narration of Holy Prophet (SAWW) about backbiting
Shabestan news agency: Holy Prophet (SAWW) was asked what is the Kaffara for backbiting? He replied that when he remembers the person whom backbiting the person was doing then he should ask for his forgiveness.
According to the report of Shabestan news agency Bin Abi Al-Jamhoor has written in his book that if a person has done backbiting of another person then he should ask for his forgiveness. It has been narrated in the book “Man La Yazaral Faqih” that Imam Sadiq (AS) said that Holy Prophet (SAWW) was asked about the kaffara of backbiting then he said that when the person who does backbiting remembers the person whose backbiting he was doing then he should ask forgiveness for that person whose backbiting he was doing.
Allama Hassan Zadeh Amali has reported many meanings on the topics of repentance, some of which are described below:
If the person came to know that the other person was doing his backbiting then the person who was doing backbiting should apologize but if he does not know then apology is not required because he was not hurt because of backbiting but in both the cases the person who was doing backbiting should ask for repentance from Allah (SWT).
